I just did an engine replacement. after finding all the ground wire hookups I got it started.
Everything seemed to work ok, then my wipers and washers stopped working and I noticed the headlights were not on. the turnsignal indicators were both on full time but blink when the signals are used and the high beam indicator comes on when I use the dimmer switch. interestingly the fog lamps come on when I switch to low beam but go out when I switch to high beam. I have power at the relays and no dead fuses. I changed the relays around and the things that work now didn't change so I surmise they are ok. Tail lights come on all right and the delay turns them off as its supposed to. I don't think the bulbs are bad as it would be quite unlikely for all this to happen at the same time.
Dave
Another thing I noticed is the relay for the headlights has power to three of the four socket terminals and the fourth one has ground.
The only codes set have to do with O2 sensor and ABS. With all the intergrated systems, would the ABS problem cause the lights and wipers to not work so you wouldn't be likely to drive the car?
Dave
I pulled the plug on a headlight and tested with a probe light, with the headlights off - no power, with the lights on - power in both wires.
What could cause it to have power in the ground wire to the bulb??
HEY you techs do you have any suggestions? I've been an all around mechanic for over fifty years , from toasters to Cats,
cars to endustrial equipment. Nothing compares to an eldorado for being wierd and confusing. (as well as damn hard to work on)
Still the best car on the road when they work right. My 96 has 300 thousand miles on it and still running strong and getting 26 mpg.
