I have a 1995 cadillac eldorado its has 143,000 miles on it heres whats going on with Sabrina
The day I bought her from the previous owner and the engine stalled once on the way home so i was thinking hmmm she probably just needs a tuneup nothing too bad....
overtime i learned the car would fall dead at stop signs, turning or braking or at low speeds so i replaced the fuel pump on her ($230 at advanced auto)
i looked in the glove compartment the previous owner just replaced the cat, plugs & ISC MOTOR....
heres what happening i have to pump the gas to start the car when its cold (i know its fuel injected) but it works
(itll starts right up when i come out a corner store or engine warm)
I thought this was the starter since it was hard to start and my IGN mega fuse under the hood started blowing... I was about to go out and buy one but a shade tree mechanic told me if its turning over and the starter is not making wierd grinding noises its not the starter ...he looked at my throttle body and intake and the plug to the tps was unhooked also the tps sensor had a crack on the female side of the connector so i super glued it on...(the unhooked tps connector and cracked female insert was probably me because i called myself cleaning the throttle body :-(
well i saw an orielly reciept in the glove compartment for an isc motor which was still under warranty so i took it off and got a new one...still doing the same thing ----making a clicking noise when i turn the key on or off idling like a lawn mower backfiring
What id like to know is how likely is it for the TPS sensor to fail along with the isc motor? (it is an 18 yr old car btw)
id like to get to the bottom of this... for some reason i love this car and i know it cant be much wrong with it
could that little throttle sensor really be out? and would it cause stalling and hesitation at acceleration? I get hesitation at speeds between 40-50 after that shes in the wind :-)
I drove a 1997 etc which out performed my 1995 esc but it was blowing white smoke
(I was told it was old gas but felt it was gaskets so i left that one at the lot)
I know my '95 even though being an esc can be just as responsive i just need to find the problem
I think ill go ahead and buy a tps sensor since its $23 (can i just throw it on screw in the 2 screws are they plug and play?)
what i really want to know is how to relearn my ISC motor (in laymens terms) just incase it keeps clicking after the new tps sensor is installed...
ive been reading but dont think ive grasped procedure yet
1. turn key to on
2.when its clicking press on screw and plunger with finger when its retracted
3.hurry and unplug it at retracted state
4.start eninge with it unpluged get throttle down to 450 when closed and turn screw on isc motor outwards until theres a gap the thickness of a nickle between the throttle arm and screw head
5.turn car off reconnect isc motor (pray)
is this right ive been reading all night i wish i was around the car because id try it....
since this high lawn mower idle started usually if i let her run shell calm down after 3-5 mins and i can sneak her around the nieghborhood or to the corner store (I dare not take further) ive recently stopped doing that since i saw the bottom of the engine literally turn red hot one day waiting for idle to lower....
itll also backfire one time when i try to crank up....ive even heard a pop around the leftmost fuel injector on the front of the engine and saw white smoke :-(
also I think ill play mechainc and clean the egr valve with some brake cleaner when i get a chance....
I think my cars mad at me since it started getting worse when i switched over to regular fuel i only use (Chevron, texaco and shell) but it started happening when i stopped feeding her premium i thought the timing got thrown off by some bad gas still havent gotten someone to check that
i know i dont have too much puncutation and im all over the place with this post but im posting via phone....please helpt me
