1993 Eldorado, new alternator installed by myself, now no gas gauge

I dont know how it happened but the mpg works, but the car has a half tank of fuel in it and reads below empty.
Is there some sort of procedure to get the gasgauge working again???

Please help, its my wifes car and she drives 110 miles with it each day she has to work.
