Need help with RSS C-Code problems - 2002 STS

My 2002 Cadillac Seville STS shows on the dashboard "limited speed to 90mph". What does this mean? I checked the codes in then cleared them in got these RSS-CO589, RSS-CO594, RSS-CO625? What does these codes mean?

'92 STS High cold start idle or not?

I have a '92 STS with approx 51k that I just finished out changing just about every major sensor (Vehicle speed sensor, ISC, and MAP) on before I figured out the PCM was bad and replaced that. It seems fine now except for one thing, cold start idle revs to 2000 RPM, hits that point, and then begins dropping back down to what seems like a normal idle level (8-900 or so I'd say). 2k seems to me to be way too high for a cold start, though. Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was with the old ISC.

So my question is basically whether I'm right about 2k being too high, and how only the cold start idle is adjusted if so. It would seem to me that if I adjust the ISC, I'm going to affect the normal idle as well and then it might idle too low. I could also always just throw the old ISC back in there since it wasn't the problematic part, anyway. Thanks for the help.

Been looking at a 97 STS with 124K miles. No reported Northstar engine problems (yet).

Is it just a matter of time, or is it just a random thing, and it could go on for years yet?

why is my 1997 cadillac serville overheating i just changed the water pump crossover gasket
then the raditor .holes..thermostat & housing plus new antifreeze ...well i jumped on the highway to take my wife to work didnt get hot tell we got to the job

1999 Cadillac Seville STS 198,xxx
-had engine replaced and saw speed limited to 90
- changed front struts and rear shocks with passive..installed resistors and got abs and Traction Control lights on dash..
-unplugged battery and didn't help
-checked codes and this is what I found

..I also took out cvrss module in trunk to repair resistor and still get same codes..

Yep I have read all I could find but didn't find an answer for this problem

The old Alternator did test bad. New one was instaled and it has been removed and tested fine so it is being put back on. Even the test with what Advance does with their machine that was brought to the shop could not complete the test. Also using my code reader it showed no code for no charge?

This is a one wire Alt. I will have to look it back up but I think it has something to do with the Tach???

Battery test fine and all connections are good and clean and have tested every fuse under the hood but not the ones in the trunk because I didn't see any thing on the list that would have to do with that. So what are we missing here? Could the old ALT have taken out something in the PCM by chance? Or is there a relay that is not working? I have the 96 factory manuals but never could get my hands on a 95 but the main diff was OB I and OB II so that can screw with me on some of the testing I might have to do.

Wife has my truck and I have no ride CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE :confused:

Have now got my Seville trike road registered here in the UK. Thanks to everyone in the forum for invaluable tech help
Pics on my profile,build pics at www.martinpreston.co.uk I have incorporated the speedo,rev counter,temp gauge in the passenger compartment the messages showing are Service A/C Service Airbag these are ok as they don,t exist now,but also getting the dreaded speed restricted to 90mph. Given all the modification ive done I,m not surprised.
How does the restriction show its self,does it restrict at 90mph or is the performance affected constantly,Have taken her out on about 10 test runs of approx. 40 miles each but don,t fancy 90mph yet.
Also how do I de restrict it, given theres only about 20% of the original wiring left ?

This is continued from a previous post which the original problem was no control of temp inside cabin. found there was no voltage going to the programmer pin which controls the rod which opens / closes the air vent.


I was able to pinpoint the problem, voltage on the green wire which runs I believe from the ECM to the programmer wasn't connecting. I confirmed ran a wire and the mechanism that controls the rod in the programmer worked. But then I experienced an nightmare scenario. I noticed that the fuel data module and ecm are wired together so when I tried to move it I saw that both digital readings went out. Moving the wires around I see this is an intermittent problem but now I cannot get the ECM to light nor the fuel data to light. Now I have a real problem as none of the climate control displays any numbers.

I do notice that when I turn the key from off to on I see both displays for a split second but nothing after that. Now I'm in need of dire help as I went from a small problem to a large problem. The car starts but now no fuel data reading OR climate control temp readings which means no blower operation.

I have the wiring diagrams and service info manual for this car and in the attached is an image of the harness where the problem is occurring.

Any suggestions where to begin? To me it seems there is a loose connection somewhere but it is a real pain to get inside this area but if I knew a starting point it would help.

For instance, looking at the diagram I would first look to see if the A.L.D.L. connection is tight. Also the right way to do this is to take the drivers seat out so I have room to lay in the cabin,

never had a vehicle with so many systems.. how does the Stability Control System operate/function? I know it deals with yaw rate/speed my inquiry is to how does it go about correcting excessive yaw? Im used to controlling such occurances via brake/throttle/steering but need to overstand my new partner

trying to understand this wee spaceship trapped on land .. im used to being the cars cpu lol this is the newest car ive owned and my first Cadillac .. any guidance as to better understanding the operation of this sytem is appreciated.. what it controls, how it attempts to correct yaw, sensor location, what circumstances may cause it to engage(degree of yaw required), any history of malfunction known(to the system in general)

Removing steering wheel airbag

I'm trying to remove the steering wheel airbag on a 02 sls to gain access to the steering wheel control buttons. Is the procedure for removing it just to put a short flat head screwdriver in the weird shaped holes and twist to release it? I didn't know if there were screws holding it in as well. I know to remove the fuse to keep from having any issues with the airbag. I was trying to release it earlier but I think the screwdriver was too long as I couldn't feel anything trying to release.

Should the plastic around the column be removed to get better access to the retaining pins?

I've been trying the flat head screwdrivers. I hear something move when I twist it but it's still not loose. I noticed the is a screw on each side so I'm wondering if these have to be removed first.

how to figure out type of suspension.

So my dad and I have a 1993 seville and we know it needs suspension work. We have been told it has the electronic suspension but im not sure. There are no suspension codes or anything like that so it makes me a tad bit confused. How can I tell what type of suspension it has?

New member. I currently own a '99 Eldorado. Did a search on Eldies, and it seems like everything here is from my youth(I'm in my youthful 50's :thumbsup:). Not my first Caddy. Previously owned an '89 Fleetwood which age, mileage and a wayward stepson killed(the stepson has grown up a bit since and has learned to take care of his vehicles), and a '94 Deville which a tractor trailer decided to turn into target practice.

Was going to sell this car after we bought an '04 Trailblazer. But the "Check Engine" light came on. Being a stand-up type of person, I figured I would take care of the problem. You'd figure what? Probably an O2 sensor or some other minor glitch. Meanwhile, a rebuilt transaxle later(Kudos to Faulkner Cadillac for the best all-around deal), the wife and I have decided to keep the car. It only has a little over 81,000 miles on it. And we both like the sleek styling. Even though it has less power and speed than the Trailblazer, we both love the way it gets up and goes. No surprise for me since my work car is a Subaru :yawn:. Peppy, but no real power.

So now I'm here. Our goal is to boost up the HP some yet still retain as much of it in factory configuration as possible. From the factory, it came with 275 horse. I'd like to get it to about 350. With better handling. Unless I hear better here, my plans are thus:

-Start with a tune-up.

-some sort of better flowing exhaust

-seriously considering a super-charger or at the least, a cold air intake.

-Finally, a computer tune done with the above changes taken into consideration.

Not building a race car. Just want more ummph.

So what say you kindly Cadillac aficionados, am I worthy? :worship:

Trying to plan for the future..

I've still got the original Goodyear Eagle GA tires that came from the factory on my '97 STS. Tires are great, no cracks, pressure never budges, and no signs of them drying out.




As much as I hate to see them go, I know at some point they will eventually wear out and need replacing (not for a little while yet). Problem is the GA model has been discontinued long ago :(

Car is z-rated and does see use in excess of 240kph, only driven in the summer on sunny days. I would ultimately like to go with something strictly performance oriented with lots of grip, say along the lines of Pirelli P-Zero, but finding such a tire in the 225/60-16 profile is not proving easy.

What has everyone else gone with?

I would like to know how to clear the history codes in the computer. I have a 2002 Cadillac Eldorado ETC. There are no falt codes stored but several history codes. I have tried using the HVAC controls but never able to clear the history codes.

I have a 2001 Cadillac STS
The steering wheel that I have now has the woodgrain but i would like to add the heated steering option and phone. If I buy a steering wheel off of a Deville will it plug right into my car and work with heat and phone?

P0300 random misfire

Hi group,

I am experiencing the p0300 RANDOM MISFIRE code on my caddy. The service engine light is flashing on and off. I took my caddy to a DIY shop. The mechanic used a more sophisticated computer and it showed the following:

CYLINDER MISFIRE
1=30
2=0
3=0
4=0
5=0
6=0
7=0
8=700

NEXT we decided to remove spark plug #8 and found that my mechanic had used AUTOLITE plugs. These plugs were installed 50,000 miles ago with no problem. I removed all 8 plugs and replaced them with ACDELCO 41-987 platinum spark plugs. Same P0300 code.

NEXT we sprayed carb/throttle cleaner on the intake and all gaskets. There was no noticeable difference in RPM or idle. Same P0300 code.

NEXT I replaced #8 FUEL INJECTOR. I order this from Cadillac and the parts manager told me he had NEVER heard of a fuel injector going bad. Same P0300 code.

According to Chilton Cadillac book, here is the following cylinder arrangement.

In back 1 3 5 7

In front 2 4 6 8

FRONT OF CAR

NEXT I replaced the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. Same P0300 code.

NEXT I replaced the SPARK PLUG BOOTS with ACDELCO #12163650. I am assuming that the spark plug boot replaces the spark plug wires because I do not see any spark plug wires.

Each time I replaced parts, I reset the code. Same P0300 code.

How do I check the IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY? Is the IGNITION CONTROL MODULE something separate that can be checked or replaced?

Thanks for your advice.
