I'm coming back to you guys! I just sold my BMW and if everything checks out tomorrow with this STS, I'll be buying it. Of course I know all of the Seville areas to check but the car looks clean and the guy said it was in good shape. We'll see about that. I'm looking forward to owning a great automobile like the Seville again!

Does your 76-78 Eldo have a rear parking brake spring (the one that wraps around the rear caliper) on both Rear calipers or just on the Drivers side like mine?Am I missing the passenger side spring?Thanks.

Hood Release Problem

Question?In the 20 years I've owned my 76 eldo,when you unlatch the hood via the release handle,its always a crap shoot if it releases enough to open the hood.You can re latch the hood & try again or alternately if you jam the handle open you can then go to the front & unlatch the hood.If you just hold the handle out slightly after it unlatches its enough so you can open the hood.This tells me that shortening/adusting the release cable would solve this except there appears to be no adjustment on the release cable.Is this more a matter of this cable just being too long/stretched (old) which would be solved with a new cable?Thanks for the help.

Hey guys,

First off i am new to Cadillac forum, so hello. needing a little guidance or advice. my parents recently picked up a 99 sts with 80k miles. my dad had me take it into a shop today for a coolant flush, well after driving it today the coolant temp gauge moves around very erratically. it will shoot up like its getting hot then return back to the middle which is where it had stayed the whole trip home. when i pulled into my drive way i let the car idle for a min and watched the temp gauge. it was bouncing around a little. then it pegged completely on the hot side and warnings came up everywhere for about 1 sec. then returned to the middle line on the temp. car doesn't seem to be over heating. do you guys think this is head gaskets or is it most likely a faulty gauge or sensor or air in the system? whats the best way to eliminate things?


second, the rear end of the car is sitting really high like a dragster. looks pretty funny. the air compressor kicks on every time when the key is cycled for about 5-10 sec. its almost like its not letting air outta the shocks. any suggestions on what to check? some kind of valve or something and where is it located? it looks like factory shocks. and there is no dtc codes when checked for the air ride.

91 seville cuts off

My 91 seville cuts off usually shortly after i take off. drives fine after that. It does idle kinda rough now. but after leaving the ball park's parking lot, it cut off like 3 times , mostly when i slowed down. But again once i drive for a while on the street this doesnt happen. I will probable go to oreillys and get car checked for codes, meanwhile any suggestion on what this might be.

Hello all,

Great forums. I am buy no means a mechanic, but do have some tools and am good with my hands. All that is missing is a little knowledge, that you members graciously have supplied.

I picked up a 2001 Cadillac Seville STS for my 17 year old. It has high mileage (170K), but was very clean and for an inexperienced driver should be nice and safe for when he runs into something with it ;)

It however has had some problems, but between researching codes and these forums I have been able to fix allot of the problems. I have had to replace the Throttle Position Sensor, which is very easy to do. Then I was also getting codes for the Mass Air flow sensor. I replaced it, but the car would still occasionally stall and throw the code, especially when going around corners. After perusing these forums I started looking into it again, and someone mentioned cleaning the sensor. Figured can't hurt since the problem is intermittent and I was beginning to pull my hair out. Took the sensor out and noticed that one of the wires for the sensor was worn. Just touched it and it finally broke! Replaced the wiring harness and the engine has been running smooth ever since. :cool:

It does need a new wheel bearing and the breaks were pulsing really bad when depressed. Also intermittently the Service Stability System light message is displayed along with the ABS and TC lights. I figured it was from the bad bearing. I started to work on replacing the wheel hub assembly. It sounded like a right rear to me, but everything I read online said that most of the time the fronts go. Also my 17 year old (who has much better hearing than I do) said it sounded like the front right was where it was coming from. I did try checking each wheel for play by grabbing at 9 and 3 o'clock and 12 and 6 o'clock per the forums. Both wheels did not have any play that I could notice. SO against my better judgment I purchased the front right wheel hub assembly, new front and rear pads, and all new rotors.

I got everything replaced and working and took it for a test drive. Breaks are nice and smooth and working great. Jumped up on the expressway to see if the sound and vibration from the bad bearing was gone.....DOH!:banghead: It is still there and still sounds like the right rear!!!! Plus now the Service Stability System message, TC, and ABS lights are always on after starting. I did check for codes, but they were all history. (mostly from disconnecting the sensor to change the wheel hub assembly. Turned the car on a few times to turn the wheel to get some more room to work). Now that my mini-novel is almost complete, I do have a question.

Can the vibrations from a bad wheel bearing cause the Service Stability System, TC, and ABS lights to come on, or could it be a bad sensor on another wheel assembly? The right rear is getting replaced no matter what, but If I have to replace a third wheel hub assembly because of a bad sensor I might as well just replace the last one while I am at it, or is there any way to test the sensors (I do have a multi-meter, just don't know what the readings should be). Any input from you almighty gurus is appreciated.

So like i said in what did you do to your car today i went to Gold Coast Cadillac. And went to the service dept to see about getting a window sticker and no luck i was not suprised but wanted to see if i could get a list of RPO codes for the Seville. And that worked out perfect only thing is i don't know any of the RPO Codes. Is there a website where they list all of them or would it be better if i posted it on here?

caddy eldorado 01 windshiel wipes motor doesnt work, blow the fuse? some advice

i take out all the connector around the wipe motor and still blow the fuse, i even cant use 40 amp fuse coz blow too, i have not idea what going there but some advice will be gr8. thx

Hello All,

I have a 2000 Eldo ETC that has a reoccurring traction control problem. The TC turns off every 7 to 10 days for no apparent reason. Went to a local Caddy dealership and after a lengthy inspection was told that the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) is failing. Even worse news is that GM has discontinued this part for the 2000 ETC according to the dealer. Does anyone out there know where I can find a new or at least a reliable remanufactured EBCM for a 2000 Eldo Touring Coupe? Any help, as always, would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

Simulated Conv. Top Ribbed Shell Needed for - Eldorado 1985

Hi,

I am looking to find a new or used simulated convertible top for my 1985 Eldorado Commemorative Edition car. Believe it or not, the other day the top that was on the car simply blew off and I had no idea that it did until I got out of the car and realized it was totally gone. All I need is just the fiberglass ribbed shell only, I have a shop that can fabricate it and reinstall it. Does anyone know of where I can get one or possibly someone has one in a junk yard or something? I know from '79-'85 the shapes were all the same so any year shell would be great. My insurance will cover all costs, I just need to locate a shell. I've tried called a bunch of places but so far not much luck. Any help would be appreciated. I am located on Long Island in NY but will pay for any shipping from anywhere in USA as I really need to find one of these.

So I'm on this other Caddy site reading a highly detailed write up on the coming out party of the 2000 SLS. I knew there was a reason I fell in love. That read melted my heart for the 2000+ Seville. I went to that site y'all recommended to check the build sheet. I learned that I have the FE1 soft ride suspension, 8DJ/9DJ rear comp susp & 6BK/7BK Spring Comp Select FRT LH/RH SUSP. Oh yeah, my question. What's the difference between GM & say, partsgeek? I noticed that geek has, say, a-arms ranging $150-$50. Same with hubs. Knowing that there's a quality difference, will I be able to replicate the entire suspension w/out getting GM Parts? Opting that I get the higher priced parts from the geek. Magnasteer too? I know it has air shocks in the rear. Don't know what the 6/7BK is though. Hope my question wasn't toooo convoluted. Thanks guys...

1999 SLS Left Turn Signal

I just bought a '99 Seville SLS from my brother. Car has been sitting for the winter. He said when he parked it everything worked fine. The left turn signal front and rear do not work. The bulbs both work. They light up. The right side turn signals do work. The hazard lights only work for the right side. You use the turn signal for the left side they dont blink. The cornering light turns on the turn signals are on but no blinking. THe light on the dash doesnt light up either or blink. You can hear the clicking very faint unlike the right side that can be heard loud and clear. What could be the problem. By my research there is only one flasher module for both sides so wouldnt both sides not work if that failed.

I have a 1990 Cadillac Eldorado I cant seem to get the centennial to work ive replaced all the fuses . The headlight switch . Does the body control module have any effect on it and if so where is it located and how can I remove and replace it

Hi

I noticed that one of my lights were out on the Left side trunk light the 1157 Lamp. I had no Volts to light. Looking further I see that by the Licence Plate light socket one wire
was burnt. It is the Purple wire it has a Sleve over the wire and there seems to be a bump in middle of the wire.The hole sleve burnt up.What is that in line sleve for.there is also one on the left side around the Brown wire.
Can You Buy this and is it needed?

Now I try to start car and all lights work but motor does not start.
